It's happening

I paid my dues for the Funky Finds show in March... Soooooo excited..
I have an entire 10x10 set to create with the help of my ever helpful expert carpenter of a father..thnks dad :)
I also have a mondo load of jewelry to make.. if school is cancelled from the freeze tomorrow I need to clean and prep my room for some major polymer clay work for after finals. gonna do some hair pieces like this guy i made last summer.

I have also decided to join a team. Etsy Ft. Worth... I really want the community aspect of etsy and the art community. i really want this to be a part of my life... so devotion here you are.

(side note: i made an 87 on my spanish oral exam today. yay.)

I've decided for the fair that i am going towards accessories..
-semi precious jewerly
-knitted items
-some crazy necklaces
-hair pins
-pouches
-mini jewerly boxes
-pins

Ive got such amazing plans. I'd share them if I could but I am going to keep it a big secret as this will be my first time on the craft scene. Let's just say I'm going big!... and I'm not going home!

Ode to Woodcarving

I have some ideas for this new hobby of mine. Pyrography is so fun because 1) you get to burn things and not get in trouble 2) burning some woods smells good and reminds me of winter 3) I am a horrible painter but fairly good at drawing.. so this works for me.

I have some great sketches for jewelry boxes. I am going to make them affordable too. Have you seen some of the ones on etsy. They are beautiful but cost a pretty penny and nothing in my style. Mine are going to be relatively simple so I can keep cost down and keep cute up!

Need to find some non-toxic paints and sealers.. I want my products to be safe and environmentally friendly as well... i heard sealing with a beeswax polish is the way to go so I might try that.

Packaging and Rubber Block Fun!

So I have been trying to come up with an uber cute packaging concept..

Well here is one idea..

I carved my tipi design onto a rubber carving block..
I stamped it using red pigment ink.First Attempt was a FAIL!Second attempt... not too bad! I like the little marks around the tipi.. but i cleaned it up a little for next time.

Lets give it a headband out of baker's twine and felt!

Oh Johnson Country you are difficult!

This is part of my workspace, where the "magic" happens
I sucks at taking photos.... Where is the boyfriend when you need him? I'd be a good photographer too if i had a camera like that.. yeesh.

One of my more playful pieces. Hello kitty meets craft meets 1950s pearl... CUTE! you cant see if but its a lock and key for a toggle piece.

I've been working on getting my tax ID and buisness lisencing out of the way. Man, Johnson County says nothing online! Thats what I get for living in a small town. When my parents owned their craft buisness in the 90s and 2000's... they knew how to do everything, so they have been trying to give me advice. Nothing is very straightforward at the local level... NOTHING! lol. Field Trip to the court house tomorrow before Spanish class. Reminding me I need to make spanish rice for the Dia los muertos party. too bad i dont any cute skull stuff. I guess I left that behind in the 10th grade. Oh wells.

The product of having itching hands

I've sold to the ladies at work and to family members.. I'm beginning this project with my best foot forward. This is me. This is my work. This is what I love.

I have made things since I was a kid. Growing up in the Mojave Desert of California and the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, I always had a fasination with rocks, nature, native americans, and the earth. When I was a kid I remember taking old t shirts and cutting them up, taking the pink flowers off the bush in the back yard and using it to make dye for the old shirts. I'd cut upart the fabric after it dried in the Arizona summer months... so about 2 minuites? lol. Then i'd sew dresses for barbie.. I always turned her into an indian. I ruined many barbies with war paint made of of oil pastels..(does not wash off!)
I picked up jewelry making when one of my best friends took me to "Beads Galore" in Tempe, AZ. I was amazed at all of the beautiful colors, shapes and textures. She took me to her house and taught me how to crimp the crimp beads, use the memory wire, and the rest is history. I've been hooked ever since :)
